We found modern laptops that have good technical characteristics, while the upper bar by weight was only 1.36 kilograms. The assortment of the top has turned out to be quite wide and we are sure that everyone will find something for himself in it. ZOOM represents the ten most light and powerful notebooks on the market. All the models we arranged for reducing their mass to preserve the intrigue.
In today’s world, the concept of mobility has become literally hypertrophied. A few years ago, we wanted to make mobile phones as compact as possible. For sure, many still remember Samsung X830 or P300, as well as Motorola Razr V3, which could “cut” bread. But the era of smartphones brought new opportunities and phones that can only call, were not needed by anyone. It became important to create and absorb content, so this segment gradually grew diagonal display, and soon there were tablets. It would seem that the modern user has the opportunity to work with a phablet, smartphone or tablet, but, nevertheless, laptops did not lay down their powers.
However, in this segment, mobility has become incredibly important. Nevertheless, the presence of a good display, rich communication capabilities and inseparable from the physical keyboard device is more important not so much for entertainment as for working in different conditions. Take the laptop with him to the office or business trip and always have the opportunity to work, connecting to the corporate account – this is important. And it is here that again and again the question arises about mobility because hardly anyone will want to take a powerful fifteen-inch laptop – usually, such devices weigh about three kilograms, which will upset anyone. So, today we will talk about light and compact laptops.
Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook – 1.36 kg
Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook weighs only 1.36 kilograms, but in today’s top is the heaviest laptop. It’s nice that with this weight and dimensions of only 316x205x18 millimeters, the user can count on a 13-inch UltraSharp QuadHD & display with a resolution of 3200 by 1800 pixels. In fact, in the case of the 11-inch ultrabook inserted 13-inch display, and the frames were slightly more than 5 millimeters.
Power is also solid – top-end processors Intel Core fifth generation (Core i5, Core i7), the frequency of the processor depending on the model varies from 1.6 to 2.4 GHz, memory 4 or 8 gigabytes, discrete graphics Intel HD Graphics (in the top version Intel HD Graphics 4400), solid state drive up to 512 GB. It is important to note, all the main modern communication capabilities: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 and 3.0, mini DisplayPort.
It’s also important to have battery life – the manufacturer claims about 9 hours of battery life. Thus, you do not have to take the charger with you and drag an extra few hundred grams.
Apple MacBook Air 13 and Apple MacBook Air 11 – 1.35 kg and 1.08 kg
When we talk about light and compact laptops, it’s impossible not to remember the MacBook Air, the line that gave rise to the Ultrabook (although officially MacBooks have never been called ultrabooks) and the concept of a lightweight powerful device for work that you can always take with you.
Apple MacBook Air exists in two versions with 13 and 11-inch display
MacBook Air 11 – this is an extremely easy option. The mass of only 1.08 kg, but in the human rumor, he received the nickname “typewriter”, because, with all its pluses, power is not always enough. Still, this is some kind of compromise, and despite the Intel Core i5 processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, 4 gigabytes of RAM, discrete graphics of Intel HD Graphics 6000 and SSDs of 128 or 256 gigabytes, the MacBook Air 11 is hardly suitable for solving complex problems. The screen resolution is limited to 1366 by 768 pixels and Retina has not reached it yet.
In the 13-inch version also there is still no Retina-display, the resolution is slightly higher than that of the younger brother – 1440 by 900 pixels. At the same time, the diagonal is 13.3 inches. In the rest, they are identical. It’s important to note that MacBook Air has two USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 2 ports, and the 13-inch model also has an SD card slot.
The operating time is slightly different: the 11-inch model works up to 9 hours, while the 13-inch version of the MacBook Air can boast of 12 hours of battery life.
MacBook Air is a compromise: the power here is sacrificed to the general ease, but it fulfills everyday work needs, like a response to mail and office applications, while having a long battery life and low weight.
Acer Aspire S7 – 1.3 kg
Acer Aspire S7 with a diagonal display of 13.3 inches – a very beautiful laptop, the appearance of which is distinguished by a white front face with a glass coating. The design is very strict and concise. Inside, the top model of the line has solid power: Intel Core i7 with a clock speed of 2 GHz, 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 GB SSD, discrete graphics Intel HD Graphics 4400.
The screen resolution is 2560 by 1440 pixels. All basic wireless interfaces and ports are presented. Powerful, light notebook in excellent design, limps only battery life – up to 7 hours.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Third Generation) – 1.3 kg
With a weight of 1.3 kilograms, this ultrabook can boast a 14-inch display with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels. The top version, in addition to its lightness, has close to cosmic powers: an Intel Core i7 processor with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz, 8 gigabytes of RAM, 512 GB of SSD, Intel HD Graphics 5500 discrete graphics.
Time of autonomous work, according to the manufacturer – up to 11 hours. Another funny detail – since we are talking about the family Thinpad, there is a branded PointStick, preserved since the time of IBM. The top version is indecently expensive – the price tag reaches 150 000 rubles, but you can choose models a little weaker, while the mobility will remain at the same level.
MSI GS30 2M Shadow – 1.2 kg
Hand on heart, we did not expect to see in our top gaming laptop manufactured by MSI, but the weight of 1.2 kilograms simply leaves no choice, knocking out and shocking anyone. The notebook with a screen diagonal of 13.3 inches (resolution 1920 by 1080 pixels) has the power of the Millennium Falcon and Enterprise combined.
Still, we have a gaming laptop, which, in addition to its lightness, should demonstrate solid technical characteristics. Intel Core i7 with a clock frequency of 2.5 GHz, 16 gigabytes of RAM and two SSDs, each 128 GB each. The graphics can hardly be called “gaming”, but there is a difference compared to other notebooks from our top-there is the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200. Gaming laptops, however, usually suffer from battery life – you can expect 3-4 hours of work from the battery, hardly more: this is the price for compactness and powerful stuffing. Well, the price of 150 000 rubles is likely to scare many.
Acer Aspire S5 – 1.2 kg
Another representative of the “light” top from the company Acer. The Aspire S5 looks more boring than the S7, but it’s easier by a hundred grams. In the ultrabook is a glossy display with a diagonal of 13.3 inches and a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. Specifications are quite good: Intel Core i7 processor with a frequency of 1.9 GHz, 4 gigabytes of RAM, discrete graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 256 GB SSD.
The battery life is not striking, but quite sufficient – 6.5 hours. Therefore, during the working day, it is obligatory to arrange dinner for an hour and then the device will live on one charge the whole day. The price for this version will be slightly more than 100 000 rubles.
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 3 Pro – 1.19 kg
This notebook from Lenovo continues to become a cult series of “bent” Yoga devices. The design allows you to use Yoga 3 Pro as a laptop and tablet, and use the presentation mode and console mode. Outside, the 13-inch display with a resolution of 3200 to 1800 points, and inside Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro the latest line of processors from Intel – Core M with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, 8 gigabytes of RAM, a 256-gigabyte SSD (there is a version of 512 GB ). Graphics – Intel HD Graphics 5300. Ultrabook supports Wi-Fi in the version of 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0.
Here there are all the main ports: USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports, micro-HDMI, 3.5-millimeter combo-out for the headset, and a card reader for SD memory cards. The battery life is also at the level – more than 7 hours according to the manufacturer’s assurances.
Asus Zenbook Prime UX21A – 1.1 kg
In the ASUS ZENBOOK Prime UX21A, there is an Intel Core i7 processor with a frequency of 1.9 GHz, 4 gigabytes of RAM, a 128-gigabyte SSD and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics chip. The laptop weighs only 1.1 kg, but the diagonal of the display is “only” 11, 6 inches, resolution 1920 at 1080 points. In our top, basically, dominate 13-inch models.
By the time of battery life the device is not particularly surprising, demonstrating 5-6 hours.
Sony VAIO Pro SVP1322M9R – 1.06 kg
Find laptops Sony VAIO on sale is already difficult, but still possible. And among the ultrabooks produced by this company, there is suitable for our top. Sony VAIO Pro SVP1322M9R weighs only 1.06 kg and still has good characteristics.
The display is a diagonal of 13.3 inches with Full-HD resolution, an Intel Core i5 processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz, 4 gigabytes of RAM and a 128-gigabyte SSD, and an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 graphics card.
Apple MacBook – 0.92 kg
Absolute record lightness – 920 grams. This is, of course, the new Apple MacBook ( see review from ZOOM ). The solution is certainly portable and mobile, but not the most unambiguous. And it is this MacBook that will steal soon the title of the typewriter from the Air-series. It has a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2304 by 1440 pixels. Aspect ratio 16:10. Inside the processor Intel Core M with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, 8 gigabytes of RAM, 512 GB of internal memory in the top version and built-in graphics Intel HD Graphics 5300.
The device supports the latest versions of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but only has one port – USB-C. It is used for powering, connecting devices and as a DisplayPort – you only need to purchase an additional adapter. The laptop will work up to 9 hours on one battery charge. The top version with Core M at 1.2 GHz and a 512 GB drive will cost 108,990 rubles, while the version with a 256 GB drive and a Core M with a frequency of 1.1 GHz costs 89,990 rubles.
